Product Installed: Articulated Concrete Block Mat (ACB)
Overview:
Landshore Enterprises was contracted to perform a comprehensive shoreline restoration project for a community in South Florida, where severe erosion had significantly compromised the integrity and safety of the shoreline. Traditional restoration methods were deemed insufficient due to the extent of the damage, necessitating an innovative and robust solution to not only restore the shoreline but also fortify it against future erosion.
Engineering Phase:
The project began with a thorough engineering phase that involved:
- Surveying: Detailed surveys of the site were conducted to assess the extent of erosion and understand the unique challenges posed by the environment.
- Permitting: Necessary permits were obtained to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Stability Calculations: Our engineers performed rigorous stability calculations to ensure that the proposed design would withstand environmental forces over the long term.
- Design: Based on the data collected, the team determined that an articulated concrete block (ACB) mat was the ideal solution. This method was selected for its ability to create safer, more stable slopes that enhance drainage and increase community safety.
Construction Phase:
With a solid design in place, our construction teams set out to execute the plan with precision:
- Excavation: The existing eroded shoreline was carefully excavated to allow for uniform installation across the project area.
- Road Construction: A temporary road built from drainage rocks and other materials was constructed to facilitate access and support the heavy equipment needed for the project.
- Shoreline Sculpting: The new shoreline was meticulously sculpted to meet the exact specifications required for the installation of the ACB mat.
- Installation of Articulated Concrete Block Mat: The ACB mat was trenched in and installed, providing a durable and stable surface designed to resist the erosive forces of high waves and wind action.
- Final Touches: The project was completed with the installation of reinforcement matting, followed by a layer of topsoil and sod, ensuring the shoreline’s longevity and aesthetic appeal.
Outcome:
The completed project resulted in a significantly strengthened shoreline that not only restored the area but also provided long-term protection against erosion. The use of articulated concrete block matting has created a durable, stable slope that is resilient to the environmental forces typical of South Florida, ultimately ensuring the safety and stability of the community’s shoreline for years to come.
